Lester Wolseley Gray
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful
passing of Lester Wolseley « Les » Gray of Malignant
Cove, Antigonish County, on February 18, 2019 at Green Meadows
Community Residence for Seniors, North Grant, at the age of
92.
Born in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, in 1926, he was the
youngest son of the late Harry and Ada (Traynor) Gray.
Les was a veteran of WW2 after which he attended UNB,
graduating with a degree in Forestry. Les then joined the RCAF, where
he earned the rank of Flight Lieutenant and served at bases in
Trenton, Borden, and Namao, and was senior officer for the
construction of RCAF Station Gypsumville. Les had a great love of
Golden Retrievers and while in the Airforce showed them with great
success in Field Trials across Canada. In 1967, he joined Parks Canada
from which he retired as Operations Manager at Fundy National Park. In
retirement Les moved to Malignant Cove with the love of his life, his
wife Norma. There they joined the Highland Society and he
also became very involved with the Antigonish Branch of the Royal
Canadian Legion, Arras 59, where he became president.
Les is survived by nieces, Ann Mendivil, Hawaii; Velma
Chamberland, Cross Creek, NB; nephews, Richard Clifton, Palm Springs;
and John Donahue, Malignant Cove.
He was predeceased by his wife, Norma Evelyn (Donahue);
brother, Franklin sisters, Helen Gray and Doris Clifton; nieces,
Beverly Dean and Rachael Lean.
The family would like to extend their warm appreciation and
thanks to Lee and her staff at Green Meadows Nursing Home for the
wonderful care and compassion given to Les. He truly felt at home
there. Lester Gray was a true gentleman and a celebration of his life
will take place at a later date.
