Brouwer, James Engel (Jim)
On Thursday, February 14, 2019 at the age of 82, Jim Brouwer passed away with family singing at his side. He truly lived his life to the glory of God.
The son of the late Berend « Bert » and Hendrikje « Henny » (nee Leffers) Brouwer, Jim immigrated from The Netherlands with his parents and siblings and made his life in Chatham. He married Teny Dekker and together they raised their five children on the family farm.
A farmer whose love and passion extended beyond fields and livestock, Jim deeply valued his family, church and community. Jim served faithfully on boards and committees. He was passionate about Christian education, welcomed strangers and took an interest in people from all walks of life.
Beloved husband of Teny (Dekker) Brouwer of Chatham.
Loving father of Teresa and Lawrence Howe of Hanilton, Arthur and Marsha Brouwer of Chatham, Joyce and Carl Banninga of Dorchester, Bertina and Eric Hogeterp of Ottawa and Irene and Jeff Janssen of Chilliwack.
Proud grandfather of Jordan (Anastasia), Aaron, Ben, Miriam (Gianni), Nathan, Angela (Phil), Joel (Miriam), Allison (Josh), Michael (Will), Sarah, Esther (Diego), Jessica, Josiah, Joey, Corey, Caleb, Rebecca, Rachel, Christopher and Eden.
Special great-grandfather of Jackson, Cooper, Avery, Brynley and Cohen.
Dear brother of Harry and Helen Brouwer, Ann and Jim Dieleman, Joanne and the late Harry DeVries, Henry and Jane Brouwer, John and Kathy Brouwer and Rhea and the late Jake Van Breda.
Fondly remembered by many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by a sister, Jannie.
The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham, ON, on Sunday, February 17, 2019 from 2-5 p.m.
A graveside interment will be held in Maple Leaf Cemetery on Monday, February 18, 2019 at 9:30 a.m.
The Funeral Service will take place on Monday, February 18, 2019 at 11 a.m., at Calvary Christian Reformed Church, 34 Victoria Ave., Chatham, ON, with Pastor Norman Visser officiating.
