Obituary of Esther DeMongs
Esther DeMings, age 94, of Alma/Green Hill, passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2019 in Valley View Villa, Riverton.
Born in Westville, she was a daughter of the late Allan and Hannah (Courts) Darroch.
Esther was a firecracker right to the end. Alzheimer’s took much of her memory, but her spunky nature remained. She enjoyed nothing better than having family and friends in her home and entertaining. She was the ultimate 50’s housewife and took great pride in her baking for all who visited at her home. In her earlier years, Esther was an active member of the Alma/Green Hill Women’s Institute and Ladies Auxiliary of the Alma Fire Department.
She is survived by her daughter Debi Baird, Mill Brook; son Greg (Cathy), Mt. Thom; grandchildren, Jennifer Perry (Andrew), Darryl Rutledge (Justine), Jackie Rutledge (Allen Young), Dale DeMings (Karen), Dana DeMings (Sandie); great-grandchildren, Hailey , Sydney and Ashley, Quinn and Kieran; step grandchildren Craig and Lindsay MacDonald; and sister Audrey Doggett; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Vernon; son-in-law James « Jim » Baird; sisters, Mae Marshall, Viola MacDonald, and brothers Henry, Garfield, Andrew, Sidney, Allan, George, John, and Jim Darroch.
Esther is resting at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Thursday, February 28th from 6-8 p.m. Her funeral service will be held 2 o’clock, Friday, March 1, from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating, followed by a reception at Alma Fire Hall. Spring burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Valley View Villa Recreation, SPCA, or charity of one’s choice.
