THOMPSON, Christopher Curtis, P. Eng., U.E.
September 11, 1951 – February 1, 2019. Chris passed away suddenly, surrounded by his family at his home in Port Hope, Ontario. Chris was predeceased by his nephew Scott Thompson, and his father, Curtis Thompson. He is survived by his wife Louise Florent, his mother, Marion Thompson (nee Price), his daughters Laura Nicholson (Ty), and Karen Thompson (Nick Brown), his grandson Liam Nicholson, his siblings, Lee Brown (David), Craig Thompson (Irene), Philip Thompson (Liz), and his five nieces.
Chris will be mourned by his step-daughters Michelle Hauser (Mark), Kim McGinley (Bill) and step-grandson Joseph. He will be dearly missed by his first wife, Judi Thompson (nee Alcombrack).
Chris was a proud alumnus of the University of Waterloo, where he graduated in 1976 with a B. A. Sc. in Systems Design Engineering. He went on to enjoy a 30-year career as a systems engineer with IBM.
During his working life, Chris had the pleasure of travelling throughout Canada and abroad. These adventures fuelled his love for baking and world cuisine; the sweets and treats of Great Britain, however, were his enduring favourites.
Chris’ love of reading and thirst for knowledge were shared with his grandson Liam, who will miss his Papa’s stories read in so many funny voices.
In a rich baritone voice, Chris was quick to share a joke or a story and was never shy to strike up a conversation with a stranger. Whether wandering through a bookstore, tinkering with his vast collection of electronics, or cooking up a storm in the kitchen, Chris struck a familiar profile with his signature style suspenders. He was a one-of-a-kind personality that will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
A celebration of Chris’ life will be held at Glen Oaks Funeral Home, 3164 Ninth Line, Oakville, Ontario on Friday, February 8th, 2019. Visitation will be held at 12:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, or to the charity of your choice
