Finnie, Bridget (Judy) Agnes (nee Fox)
Peacefully in her 88th year on February 17, 2019, surrounded by her family, Bridget entered her eternal rest. Born in Coragh Co. Leitrim Ireland on January 8, 1932, she trained as a nurse and midwife in England before settling in Canada. Bridget was happiest in the hospital nursery caring for new mothers and their babies in Oakville, Dunnville and Hamilton. In retirement, she enjoyed the time with her loving husband traveling the world, writing, spiritual reflection and adventures with her grandchildren. Despite being afflicted with dementia in her later years, a lifelong Pro Life advocate, Bridget died at life’s natural end in God’s time just as she would have wanted. Predeceased by Sam (2014) her husband of 54 years, Bridget is survived by her children Sam Jr. (Heather) of Ripley, Neysa (Gord Brown) of Vancouver, Joy (Greg Shikaze) of Ancaster and Jim (Julie) of Stittsville, grandchildren Gabrielle (Greg Smith), Spencer, Brandon, Joseph, Matthew, Ally, Connor, Michael and Daniel, great grandchildren Benjamin and Julianna Smith, siblings John of Rhode Island USA and Josephine of England and many other relatives and friends in Canada, USA, Ireland and UK. Predeceased by her parents Michael and Margaret (Dolan) Fox and siblings Mary, Susan, Francis, Kathleen, Margaret and Rose. Special thank you to all the caring staff at St. Joseph’s Villa in many different departments who enhanced Bridget’s quality of life over her final years and to her beloved care providers Francesca, Ruby and Angie. Visitation will be held at PX DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 796 Upper Gage Ave, Hamilton on Friday, February 22 3-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Regina Mundi Catholic Church, 631 Mohawk Road West, Hamilton, on Saturday, February 23 at 10am. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery Ancaster. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Joseph’s Villa Foundation Dundas (where both Bridget and Sam lived until the end of their lives) in support of Hospice and Long term Care would be sincerely appreciated, www. sjvfoundation.ca On-line condolences can be made to www.dermodys.com
