Alexander « A.D. »‘s Obituary
CHURCHVILLE – Alexander Dunbar “A.D.” MacDonald, Churchville, passed away peacefully in his 103rd year on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born on March 14, 1916 in Eureka, he was a son of the late James Alex and Rebecca (Dunbar) MacDonald. A.D. worked alongside his wife, Catherine, operating the family farm in Churchville for many years while providing “odd job” services such, painting and carpentry. He was a member of Springville Presbyterian Church, where he had served in the choir and as a Sunday school teacher. He was a Past Grand and 70-year jewel holder of IOOF Union Lodge No. 30, Springville where he was a member for 74 years. A.D. loved to sing and was a member of the Stellarton Male Chorus for many years. Around home, he would often break into song, to the delight of those around him. A.D. was a hard worker, a loving and devoted husband, who will be greatly missed by those he loved.
Surviving are his brother, Clarence MacDonald, Churchville; several nieces; friends, Andy and Wendy Ward, Churchville and their children, Alisha (Roy), Andrew (Kim) and Ben (Alesha), and their grandchildren, Sawyer, Noah, Avery and Cooper Alexander.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, love of his life and best friend, Christena Mae (Grant); sister, Myrtle; brothers, Curtis, Sinclair and Alton; sister-in-law, Daisy MacDonald.
In honour of A.D.’s wishes a private graveside service will be held at a later date.
