With heavy hearts, we regret
to announce the passing of Hattie O’Rourke, beloved mother,
grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt at the Cape Breton
Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Monday, February 18, 2019, surrounded by
her loving family.
Born March 25, 1936 in Sydney, she was the daughter of the
late Charles and Evangeline (Weatherbee) Richardson.
As all her family and friends know, Hattie was an avid bingo
player and acquired many special friends. She loved to travel to
Florida and BC, as well as Lake Ainslie, which held a very special
place in her heart, where she, Dad and family spent many years
together.
Hattie is survived by her daughters, Debra, Colleen (Glenn)
Tighe, Peggy (Jay) King, Maureen (Jim), Susan (John) and Phyllis
(Sheldon) Covey; sons, Philip (Leanne Matheson) and Sean (Tracey);
brother, Brian (Kathleen) Richardson: sister, Sheila Mroz;
sister-in-law, Peg Carrie; 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren
and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Phil; sister,
Margaret Hopkins; brothers, Charles and Donald Wayne.
We would like to extend a sincere thank you to the doctors
and nursing staff of CCU and palliative care for the excellent care
and compassion they provided our mother.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on
Thursday, February 21 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at Holy
Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier on Friday, February 22 at 10 a.m., with
Rev. Paul Murphy officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to palliative care
or the Holy Redeemer Building Fund.
