GORISSEN, Wilhelmine (Helmi) Katherine née Sträbel
Born 1926-11-20 in Krefeld, Germany
Deceased 2019-02-12 at the age of 92 years young
She joins in Paradise her husband of 32 years Wilhelm Englebert « Wilbert » Gorissen, son Willard (survived by Katrine née Gaydos) and daughter Cindy (survived by Raymond Benoit). Cherished Oma to Matthew, Nicholas, Eric (Andrea), Alex (Tiffany) and Marc (Romana). Loving great-grandmother to Cole, Miller, Archer, Aubrielle, Theo and Seth. Sadly missed by her extensive family in Germany and her many friends. The family wishes to thank the nursing and administrative staff at Meadowbrook in Lively, St. Gabriel’s Villa in Chelmsford, and the ER staff at Health Sciences North in Sudbury, for their care in her last days. Helmi was born in Krefeld, Germany and came to Canada in 1952. She and Wilbert had survived the struggles of WWII, married in Dülken, Germany, and started their new lives and their family in Sudbury in 1953 with the birth of their eldest child. They moved back and forth between Sudbury and Napanee, Ontario before settling in Dowling in the summer of 1971. Helmi was filled with a zest for life and enjoyed coffee and conversation with friends, delicious German chocolates, lunches with her grandchildren, and music. Her determination and strength of character lives on in her grandsons, as well as her stubborn streak and clever sense of humor, which will be sorely missed. Ruhe in Frieden, Oma. Cremation entrusted to Chelmsford Cooperative Funeral Home, no visitation. A celebration of her life will be held on March 9th, 2019 at Saint Bartholomew’s Catholic Church followed by private family celebration. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Health Sciences North Foundation- Cardiac Rehabilitation Center or St. Gabriel’s Villa foundation. www.cooperativefuneralhome.ca
