OBITUARY
Mrs. Wilma Isabel Joss
August 10, 1928 – January 4, 2019
Wilma passed away peacefully on January 4, 2019 at the age of 90.
Wilma was predeceased by her husband Jim, son Jim, daughter Kathy, parents (Caroline & William), brothers (Harvey, Bob & Ron) and sisters (Doris & Bernice).
Wilma is survived by her sister Jean, son Bill (Chris), daughters Linda (Greg), Diane (Richard), Judy (Wane), Jo-ann (Brian), son-in-law Ron, many many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Wilma was born at home on Hull Avenue in St. Vital. She grew up with 6 siblings. She loved being part of a large family, enjoying lots of fun together. She practiced tap dancing just like her favorite film star Shirley Temple. She loved reading and ice skating. She attended school in St. Vital and Selkirk and graduated from Glen Lawn Collegiate.
Wilma married the love of her life James Joss on May 1, 1948. She wanted to have several children and to her great joy, she had seven. Wilma had a long and very full life. She loved people and especially children, whom she cherished. Throughout her life she had many good friends. She loved to travel, dance and exchange photographs of which she had many. But most of all, she loved people.
Wilma was a founding member of The Friends of Schizophrenia, an organization so dear to her heart.
Wilma also had a working career. Before marriage she worked in a sewing factory. Wilma made many of her children’s clothes when they were growing up. Later in life, she was a sales clerk at Eaton’s downtown, The Bay downtown and finally at Brathwaites Pharmacy on Ness Avenue.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Lion’s Manor Personal Care Centre for their compassionate care during Wilma’s last year of life. The family also wants to say a special thank you to Wilma’s sister-in-law Maureen, Wilma’s best friend Doris and the Cook cousins for their kindness.
As Wilma wished, cremation has taken place and a Memorial in celebration of her life and internment will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Friends of Schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba , Canadian Cancer Society or to Lions Centre at 320 Sherbrook St..
