Send Sympathy Card
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of William Maxymowich at DeSalaberry District Health Centre, St. Pierre, MB on Friday, January 18, 2019, at the age of 78 years.
Bill was Eva’s great love and the father of Kenny, Tim (Terra) and Tammy (Lorne). He was the Gido to Kendra, Jasmin, Diamond, Brooklyn, Luke, Farai, Madison, Kyra, Tendai and Dakota. He was also Great Gido to baby Leighton and looking forward to the arrival of his second great-grandchild. He is also survived by his siblings: Audrey (Charles), Rosie, Helen, Gladys, Judy (Myron), Ronnie (Verna), Wilma (Bob); sister-in-law Pauline and their families.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, John and Ann Maxymowich; siblings, Eugene and Dan.
Bill was born on the family farm in Caliento, MB. Even from a young age Bill was a dedicated hard worker. Dad worked at Maple Leaf Construction for 21 years, the latter of which he was foreman.
He met Eva in 1961. In 1971, Bill and Eva moved their family to Sundown on their beef farm and after retiring it was very important to Bill that he remained on the farm.
Dad and Mom had an incredible marriage of 55 years which was an example to us all. Together they showed us the importance of family. His biggest passion was the love of farming and he took pride in keeping his yard very clean. He worked hard and never complained. He taught his children that the harder you worked the more you got in return. In his leisure, Dad enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching wrestling, quadding and playing cribbage. William will be remembered by many for the numerous hand-crafted windmills he gifted. Dad we will forever miss the mischievous twinkle in your eye and your knack to always add humor.
Bill was a great believer in God and lived his life with honor, dignity and compassion for others. He was treasurer for 13 years at the Sundown Catholic Church and a board member at Sopiwnyk’s Church. Through his long illness, he never complained and felt blessed for all the love and kindheartedness of family and friends.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB with viewing prior to the service. Lunch will follow the service. Interment will take place at The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church Cemetery (by Sopiwnyk’s) Caliento, MB.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of William be made to The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church Cemetery Fund (by Sopiwnyk’s), c/o financial secretary Audrey Bednar, 2 Kimberly Bay, Steinbach, MB R5G 2G4 or to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation 1160-675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
The family wishes to thank Doctor Reimer and all the nurses at Steinbach CancerCare for their care, kindness and support.
We will miss him dearly. Dad you will always be in our hearts.
