Mearl Norman Pickett of Welling, Alberta passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at the youthful age of 89.
He is survived by his wife Florence Miller Pickett and her son, Jason Jervis.
Mearl was predeceased by his wife Vivian Fairbanks Pickett and grandson, Zachary Kipp. Mearl and Vivian (Bim) are the parents of Danny, Carolyn, Judy Byam, Pamela Kipp and Jeremy. Mearl dearly loved his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by 3 brothers, Floyd, Don and Delbert. He was predeceased by 3 sisters, Hazel, Helen and Rose.
Mearl was born in Okotoks on August 8, 1929 and was raised mostly in Raymond and then Taber area where he met and married his sweetheart Vivian. They raised their children as he pursued a teaching career in Taber and Lethbridge.
As is well-known Mearl had an infinite passion and skill in hockey and golf making lifelong friends. A carpenter at heart, Mearl built/remodeled many family homes filled with love and cinnamon buns.
In his later years he met and married Florence Miller. They enjoyed dancing, old movies, companionship and served 3 missions together. The family appreciated Florence’s tender attentiveness to Mearl in his final months.
Mearl leaves a legacy of authentic kindness, integrity, zest for life and good nature. Thank you dad.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 2 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Welling. Friends are invited to meet and mingle with family in the chapel at 11:00 am and service will begin at noon.
