We, the family of Maud Smith,
age 96, regret to announce her passing on Thursday, January 10, 2019,
at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney.
Born June 12, 1922, in Sydney, she was the daughter of the
late Silas and Caroline (Butt) Ash.
Maud retired from Shell Canada and was a member of the Church
of Christ the King (formerly, Christ Church), where she also bowled in
the church bowling league. Mom kept active with lots of walking. She
was an avid gardener, taught crocheting at time out and night school
and was a member of the Steelworkers Pensioner’s Club, as
well as many others. Every grading day, mom would bake a cake that the
neighbourhood kids looked forward to each year.
She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Smith (Richard Karis),
PEI and son, Glenn Smith, Sydney; grandchildren, Nathan and
Michaela.
Besides her parents, Maud was predeceased by her husband,
Stanley Smith (December 1996); sisters, Olga Bishop, Marg Messenger
and Merle Planetta and brother, Steve.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on
Monday, January 14 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will
take place at the Church of Christ the King on Tuesday, January 15 at
2 p.m., with Rev. Peter Rafuse officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill
Cemetery at a later date.

choice.
