OBITUARY
Margaret Marie Potekal
May 18, 1927 – January 6, 2019
Our Mom, Peggy, passed away at Evergreen House in North Vancouver January 6th, 2019. Peggy was predeceased by her beloved spouse Ted of 63 years, brother Bob (Evie), sisters Beth (Rod) and Effie (Fred). She is survived by daughter Margie (Bob), son Duane (Shelley ), brother Laddie (Joyce) and sister Judy (Nicky). She also leaves behind many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Peggy was born May 18th, 1927, in Lethbridge. She had fond memories and lots of stories of growing up on the farm in Picture Butte in southern Alberta. Her young adult years were in Fernie BC where she nursed in the old Fernie Hospital and then was a Dental Nurse for the local dentist. She married the love of her life in 1955 and enjoyed being a wife in the military community. They travelled extensively and managed to pitch a tent in every country across Europe. Mom (Peg) reigned over the Coleman stove and the spaghetti pot while Dad (Ted) and Margie pounded tent pegs and blew up air mattresses. After military retirement they settled in North Vancouver and became part of the Ralph Street neighborhood. We have many memories of neighbors helping neighbors, of sharing a “boost” (happy hour) over the fence and the summer street parties. Mom (Peggy) was warm and caring, a very kind woman. She was a natural homemaker, loved baking and preparing food, a gracious hostess always. Their home became a home away from home for many.
These last few years have been hard for Mom and we are grateful to the Evergreen House staff for their diligent care. A special thank you to Dr. Dorothy Janzen; Mom always felt safe in your care and thought of you as a friend as well as her doctor.
Mom’s (Peggy’s) cremated remains will be placed in a niche next to Dad’s (Ted’s) at Boal Chapel and Memorial Gardens . A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
