Obituary for
Kenneth Macdonald Carmichael
It is with great sadness that Lynn Carmichael announces the passing of her dear Kenny as a result of prostrate cancer.
Ken learned of his health challenge in December of 2017 and he fought through to October 2018 when significant deterioration set in and by January 2019 there was nothing further the medical profession could do.
Ken was predeceased by his parents, Anne Macdonald Carmichael & Kenneth Duncan Carmichael, and his dear sister Moira A. Hayes.
He leaves behind, his dear wife of 43+ years, the love of his life, best friend and soulmate, Anita Lynn Carmichael, his brother-in-law, Stephen Hayes, 3 cousins, a nephew and niece and their families, and Lynn’s cousins and friends and family in Vancouver.
Following his graduation from McGill University in Math and Physics in 1960, Ken began a 23-year career which included the Canadian Pacific Railway in Research and Marketing in Montreal and Vancouver and the Canadian Transport Commission in Grain Transportation Regulation, in Ottawa. During this time Ken completed his MBA from McGill University.
Ken found his passion and spent the next 31+ years of his career in residential real estate with Re/Max Metro-City Realty Ltd and Re/Max Hallmark Realty Group, reaching the pinnacle of his personal achievements in both 2001 and 2002. During these two years, Ken was ranked as one of the top 100 Sales Associates in Canada and top 1% of the Re/Max Canadian membership.
Ken got up each day with purpose, worked hard and always put his clients first. He exemplified the principle “if you love your work, you will never work a day in your life”.
While wintering on Long Boat Key in Sarasota, Florida and summering in Chatham, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Ken modelled this principle. He worked closely with his associate, Travis Gordon, to maintain continuity for his clients from afar. And in the days before his passing, Ken entrusted Travis to continue to provide high quality real estate services for his current clients.
Lynn is thankful for the support of their circle of friends, especially the Campbells and the Currans, who through their love and care lightened Ken’s load as he fought his illness over the past year.
With thanks also to the staff of the Ottawa Hospital, Champlain LINH Palliative Home Care program, Elisabeth Bruyere Palliative Care team for their dedicated service while Ken was under their care.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. Ken was a keen supporter of The Ottawa Mission, The Ottawa Food Bank, The Shepherds of Good Hope, CHEO Miracle Network and the Canadian Cancer Society.
As per Ken’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. There will be a celebration of Ken’s life later. A notice of this celebration will be placed in the Ottawa Citizen when a date has been determined.
Order Flowers
