Obituary of John Mitchem
Peacefully in hospital, Shawville, Quebec on January 1, 2019 following a long, courageous battle with cancer, John “Jack” Mitchem, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 71 years. Predeceased by his parents Lloyd Mitchem and Viola Furlotte as well as by his first wife, Grace. Loving and devoted husband to Dixie. Cherished father of Valerie, Danny and Suzanne Kirkman (Trevor) and Leanne Mitchem (Nadi) and beloved stepfather of Angie Atkinson (Skyler) and Rick Atkinson (Tina). Proud grandpa of Michael Kirkman, Michael Farnsworth, Adam and Georgia Howard, Barbara Grace Napper, Sami Bandari Nejad, Ryan (Tai), Connor and Lauryn McCauley, Bryce (Erin) and Evan Atkinson and William Moriarty. Dear brother of Gerri (Vic Giguere)and Helen Mitchem (Les Thedroff) and loving uncle to his nieces and nephews. He will be fondly remembered by his camping family, where he usually spent most of his summers. Jack loved his western movies, classic country music and a round of golf. At Jack’s request there will be no service. As an expression of sympathy, a donation to the Shawville Recreation Association or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
