Sutherland, John Donald – August 21, 1922 – January 17, 2019: As the result of an unexpected medical condition, Donald passed away at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst. He is survived by his bride of seventy-two years, Lillian Fraser, known as “Gram” to the family. He was predeceased by infant son, David Robert, in 1949 and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth (Lynch) Sutherland in 2002. A very successful person in his own right, he encouraged success in others, particularly his sons, Lee (Lynn), Douglas (Paulette), and Eric (Bonnie). He left special memories and pride in the persons of his adoring grandchildren, Dawn (Carey), Dale (Greg), Allan (Patricia), Sandy (Leigh Ann), Aimée (Shane), Lynda (Calum). His great grandchildren are Ellis, Peyton, Kaeden and Jaelyn. Father had numerous nieces and nephews; Two friends, Michael and Adele Stokoe came to be considered family. Their assistance and support over the years are greatly appreciated. Father and Mother left The Falls in 1964 to live in Alberta and later Ontario, returning to Earltown in 1968. Pa and Gram retired to Truro in 1994. Father was a coach, mentor, raconteur and a confidant to all combined with a talent for making his views very clear.
He was predeceased by siblings Jessie (George Fraser), Jean (George Epworth), Catharine (Ross Bickers), Colin (Bessie Dunbrack), George “Bud” (Katharine Macleod), Ethel (Dickson Reid) and Hazel (John Hawkins).
Being a Free Mason, he was a Past Master of Keystone Lodge 102, a member of Truro Lodge 43 and a Past District Deputy Grand Master of Colchester County District.
