DOWN, J.M. Colbert (Bert)
September 9, 1934 – January 20, 2019
With his loving family by his side, Bert passed away peacefully on January 20, 2019, at The Ottawa Hospital General Campus after a short illness, at the age of 84.
Beloved and devoted husband to Eileen Murray-Down, loving and cherished stepfather of Faye Richard (Paul), son-in-law John Gough (Sharon) and dearly loved grandfather of Tyler and Nicholas. Loved brother of Robert Down (Lorilee). Predeceased by his first wife Denise Vachon, parents Marie and Reginald Down and sister Marjory. He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and friends.
Bert was an avid sportsman, which included his love of golf. One of Bert’s special buddies was his brother Robert with whom he loved to golf. These were special times for him. He also showed his love for the game of bridge during his earlier years, which he truly enjoyed on weekends with his buddies.
After the passing of Bert’s first wife, he continued to maintain a loving relationship with the Vachon family. They embraced his loving wife Eileen as one of their own as did Eileen’s family embrace Bert.
He was deeply loved and will forever be in our hearts.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Heritage Funeral Complex, 1250 Trim Road to pay their respects to the family on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A mass will then be held in the Heritage Funeral Complex chapel at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow. Flowers are welcome or a memoriam donation to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
