Hollis Steeves
1935-2019
Hollis Stanley Steeves, 83, passed away
at his home in Second North River on Saturday, January 19, 2019. Born
in Moncton, NB, he was the son of the late Stanley and Thelma
(Gilbert) Steeves.
Hollis joined the army shortly after
completing school, and proudly served with the PPCLI and Provost
Corps. He went on to join the Ontario Provincial Police, and later,
the Barrie Police Force. He was always interested in farming and
gardening, which brought him back home to New Brunswick where he owned
and operated Mountain Meadow Dairy Farms. He was elected as a member
to the New Brunswick Legislative Assembly. He raced horses, ran a
strawberry U-Pick and was a Deacon at the Second North River United
Baptist Church. His daughters would say « What didn’t
Dad do? Honestly, we could write a
book. »
Dad was extremely dedicated and caring
to his community. He truly was a renaissance man, never afraid to try
something new and completely different. He wasn’t perfect;
he was human, with a huge capacity for love and family. He was larger
than life.
Survived and sadly missed by his beloved
wife, Stella; children, Kathleen (Frederic Fettah) Steeves, Patricia
Perry, and Christine (Jeff) Hope; step-daughters, Joanne Bazin, Sharon
Maranda and Brenda Dewitt (Bob); grandchildren, Ken (Cindy) and Kate
Steeves, Heidi and Mark Alexander, Jennifer Essid (Ahmed), Nicholas
and Matthew Perry and Jessica and Molly (Joseph) Hope; step-grandson,
Justin Maranda; thirteen great-grandchildren; siblings Lois Donnelly
and Joan Bulmer and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Hollis was
predeceased by his first wife, Ilse (Klingenhoff) Steeves; son, Peter
(Pat); and sister, Glenda Bazin.
Funeral Arrangements are in the care of
Salisbury Funeral Home and Crematorium. There will be a Celebration of
Life at the Second North River United Baptist Church on Tuesday,
January 29, 2019 at 11 am with Pastor Robb Hunt officiating. Interment
in Pinehill Cemetery in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to The
Second North River United Baptist Church, Canadian Diabetes
Association or charity of the donor’s choice would be
appreciated.
