Henry’s Obituary
PORTER, Henry Richard ~ Age 79, of Cambridge, Kings Co., passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2018, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, with his wife of 58 years by his side. Born in Yarmouth on August 7, 1939, he was a son of the late Gordon T. and Hilda M. (Wagner) Porter. Henry served for 10 years in the Royal Canadian Navy, followed by 26 years in the Canadian Coast Guard until his retirement. He and his wife enjoyed camping and blue grass music and they had spent 10 winters in Florida. Henry loved to sing and learned to play guitar in his later years. Surviving are his wife the former Carolyn A. Martin; daughters, Brenda (Vernon) Keddy, New Ross; Elaine Porter (Dan Thurber), Fort Francis, Ont.; April (Dan) Comeau, Liverpool; son, Paul (Jennifer) Porter, St. Johns, Nfld.; grandchildren, Isaac and Jonah Comeau; Jackson and Alexandria Porter; step-grandchildren, Morgan, Dusty, Edward and Sarah; brothers, Lawrence (Yvonne) Porter, Gananoque, Ont.; Bruce (Sally) Porter and Arthur (Linda) Porter, both of Argyle; sister, Christine (Alvah) d’Entremont, West Pubnico; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by twin brothers in infancy; brother, Carl (Marilyn) Porter; sister, Irene Raynard. A celebration will take place and be announced at a later date, with interment in Berwick Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to Canadian Cancer Society, Carey Me Fund – Supporting Palliative Care in the Home, Victorian Order of Nurses – Annapolis Valley Branch or to any charity. The family would like to say a very special thank you to Dr. Judith Peutz, for going above and beyond for Henry and also a special thanks to the Victorian Order of Nurses and the Palliative Care Team.
