OBITUARY
Helen Rita Collins
Passed away on January 7, 2019
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Helen Rita Collins on January 7, 2019, at Freeport Hospice at the age of 95.
Helen was a truly remarkable woman who was loved by all who knew her. From sipping moonshine at the kitchen table to her bottomless candy dish to her infamous pre-dinner prayers, she always made time for her family and those most important to her. Helen loved some friendly competition and couldn’t resist playing a game of cribbage with her sons and then grandchildren. She was renowned in the tattoo business when, along with some of her granddaughters, she got a shamrock tattoo at the age of 90 (one of her favourite memories to recall). Helen was the family historian and could always be counted on for telling stories of her childhood in Maryhill and the joys of raising four boys. She had a very special relationship with her great-granddaughter Liyana, who affectionately called her G.G. Predeceased by her loving husband of 58 years Wilfrid Collins. Loving mother of Edward (Susan), Bill, Roger (Deb), and Dan (Cathy). Devoted grandma of Lisa, Mark, Brian (Tara), Jennifer, Matthew, Kevin, Nathan, Shayne, Stephanie, Corey and Rachel. Proud great-grandma (G.G.) of Liyana and Sophia. Predeceased by parents Edward and Elizabeth Hummel, brothers Jerome (Sammy), George (Eileen), Frank (Anne) and sisters Alma Kampman (Bill), and Marie Moore (Dalton). Helen was a long-time devoted member of St. Aloysius Parish in Kitchener. She loved Jesus Christ with all her heart and in life served Him and adored Him. She left her spirit in His hands, asking for her family’s health and happiness in turn, giving Him her life and heart. Helen’s passing will leave a void in all of the lives that she touched, those who knew and loved her will miss her dearly but she will always be with us. Family and friends may visit at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. S. Kitchener on Sunday, January 13 from 2-4 and 7-9 with a prayer service at 7 pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 11 Traynor Avenue on Monday, January 14 at 10 am. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
