It is with great sadness that the family of David “Dave” Williams announces his passing on January 28, 2019 at the age of 79.
Dave will be lovingly remembered by his wife Jolene; children Patti (Al) Courchesne, John Williams (Lisa Byrne), Terri (Brad) Kezema; grandchildren Ben (Cindy) Courchesne, Jacob Courchesne, Jealene (Josh) Banak, Jada Kezema; his sister Margaret (Dick) Ellsworth and his nieces and nephews. Dave was predeceased by his parents Victor and Rose Williams and brother LCdr. Arthur Williams.
Dave started his career in 1958 working at Air Canada for twenty years. From there he spent ten years with the Edmonton Eskimo Football club where he managed the move into Commonwealth stadium, established the Green and Gold Club and celebrated five Grey Cup victories. Dave also left his mark on Economic Development Edmonton, the Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta and NAIT where he retired from the position of Executive Director of Planned Giving in 2007.
Dave was a devoted person who made an impact on his community. He was an active board member with the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum for nine years and was an inductee into the Sports Hall of Fame in 2009. Upon being diagnosed with ALS, Dave joined the Board of Directors for the ALS Society of Alberta in 2007 and served as a board member for twelve years raising awareness to make the lives of those touched by this disease more manageable.
More than anything Dave loved spending time with his family and friends. It is this love that fuelled his courage and kept him strong until his last breath.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday February 2, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Santa Maria Gorretti Catholic Parish,9110 110 Avenue NW, Edmonton, AB .
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Dr. Gerald Zetter Care Centre, the ALS Society of Alberta and Pilgrim’s Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the ALS Society of Alberta or Pilgrims Hospice.
