Dale Franklin Frombach 2019

Dale Franklin Frombach (aka Pops, Popsicle, Gramps, Grandpa, Papa, Boss Hog, The Godfather of Swearing) of Edenwold, Saskatchewan died peacefully on January 18, 2019, in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his loving family.
Dale is predeceased by his wife Hannelore Frombach (Krull), his parents Ernest and Hilda Frombach, his sister Maureen Hackl (Frombach), his in-laws Fritz & Annelotte Krull & his brother and sister-in-law Peter & Anke Krull.
Dale is missed and remembered by his daughters Kirsten Frombach (Andrew & Chad Roberts), Inger Frombach (Tyler & Tiana Michaels), Britta Frombach (Sandy & Sophie Burns) and his beloved furry friend Apple, as well as his loving nieces, and many extended family and friends. Dale was a loving father, husband, grandfather, uncle and friend to everyone.
Dale grew up as a young farm boy in Saskatchewan getting into all kinds of adventures and mischief. He left his small town to attend Luther College High School in Regina where he became an accomplished athlete breaking Western Canadian track and field records. Dale also played football at the College level until he was injured.
Dale was well rounded and involved in the Letterman’s chorus and the drama club. He met many good friends during his high school and college years creating enduring friendships that remained steadfast throughout his life. Dale was a true trailblazer and after completing his college teaching degree he took off hitchhiking through Europe with the stated intention to meet his future wife-which he did! Dale met the love of his life at a bar in Germany and within 2 months of meeting, Dale and Hannelore were married and headed back to the beautiful prairies to start a family.
They were often a hub of the community for gathering and socializing and became an entertainment duo, writing, directing and acting in community plays together. Dale and Hannelore stayed true to their adventurous beginnings taking their girls and their extended family on countless family holidays. Dale coached hockey and became the President and Vice President of the Local and Regional Hockey Leagues. Upon his return to Canada, Dale had decided to go back to his roots in farming as it was ‘in his bones’. He ran his family farming and transport business along with his father and respected employees, many of whom became lifelong friends.
He was an early innovator in the farming sector integrating new crops and techniques into traditional practices in order to continuously improve his farming operations until he retired at 55. Thereafter, Dale continued to be involved in business, deftly managing his investment portfolios as a self-taught financial whiz. When his beloved wife died the same year as his retirement, Dale took up the mantle of both Mother and Father to his 3 girls and he seamlessly continued with all of the family traditions as a devoted, loving father.
Dale became famous for his cooking and everyone loved his homemade galuschti, apple strudel, apple sauce, turkey dinners, pickles and of course his fabulous barbq steak. Dale was a great storyteller and loved spending time with friends but his favorite pastime was to be surrounded by his loving family and, most of all, his beloved grandchildren-they could not enter the room without his face lighting up into his winning, eye-glinting smile.
Dale moved from his beautiful home in Edenwold and memorable cottage on Pasqua Lake in Saskatchewan to be closer to all of his girls in BC and was able to enjoy many fun, engaging, wonderful family times during his sunset years. A heartfelt thanks to Dale’s friends for all the wonderful memories and a special thank you to all of his health providers for their loving care and support during his final days.
We welcome all colleagues, family, and friends to his Memorial Celebration to be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive in Victoria, BC, on Monday, February 18, 2019, 11 am. Memorial donations may be made to the Victoria Hospice.
