Obituary for Antonio « Tony » Greco
In Loving Memory of
Antonio (Tony) Greco
September 15, 1932 – January 2, 2019
It is with great sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of Antonio Greco at his place of residence. Loving Father to Marco Greco (Christine), Marcella Greco and cherished Nono to his grandson Gabriel Greco and extended grandchildren Dawson Noble, Rebecca Noble, and great granddaughter Rhiella Noble. Antonio was the dear son of Gabriele and Giulia (De Vuono) Greco both predeceased. Loving brother to Pasquale Greco (Teresa), Alfredo Greco predeceased (Rose), Renato Greco (Rosa), Emma Covelli predeceased (Luigi), Anna Ciavarella (Antonio predeceased), and Mario Greco. Antonio will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, colleagues and friends. Antonio was born in Piane Crati, Cosenza Italy on September 15, 1932. He immigrated to Canada in 1952 as a young man where he settled and lived in Sudbury, Ontario. In 1961, he started his own business called Embassy Barber Shop in the South End, Four Corners area and became a dedicated barber to many clients. He was a successful businessman, a respected barber and very loyal to his clients. He worked in the industry for 50 years before retiring in 2011 at the age of 78. He volunteered and donated his time at the Sudbury General Hospital where he would provide haircuts to the patients. He took great pride in his work and made many loyal friends along the way and he will never be forgotten by his clients. Antonio was a dedicated church member at St. Patrick’s Church where he attended mass every Sunday and volunteered as an Usher of Collections. He was also a long standing member of the Caruso Club Society. Antonio was an avid wine maker as well as a great gardener always planting and tending to his vegetable garden making fresh homemade tomato sauce. He loved cooking and boy, was he a great cook. Our Father had a great love of music. He played acoustic guitar, drums, and mandolin. All self-taught I might add. He loved playing his vinyl records and listening to the greats of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Perry Cuomo and many others. There was always music playing in his household. In his spare time, he loved to go dancing, bowling, play bocce, venture out to the casino and loved horseracing at Sudbury Downs. He was a very practical, modest and humble man who believed in living a simple life. In his later years, he was a snowbird. His favorite past time was travelling to Mexico with a group of friends year after year where he enjoyed the warmer climate, hot sandy beaches and swimming. Special thanks and heartfelt gratitude to the Shared Healthcare Team, Bayshore staff, Nurses and PSWs, CCAC, and Medigas as well as to Dr. deBlacam and Danielle, without you and the whole healthcare team, my role as a caregiver would not have been possible. He was greatly loved by many, will be missed by all who knew him, and will never be forgotten.
