AUSTIN, Mildred Lillian “Alayne” (Slater) – Passed away peacefully, with family at her side, on Wednesday, January 23, 2019. She was in her 83rd year. Alayne was the beloved wife of the late Peter Austin. Alayne was predeceased by all three of her siblings; Joan Dufresne, Bob Slater, and Alan Slater. Loving mother of Alva Woods, Elayne Gonneau (Ross), and Ivan Austin (Linda). Cherished grandmother of Peter (Bea), Amy (Joel), Joshua (Chihiro), Angela (Daniel), Jason (Whitney), Aaron, and Donald. Great-grandmother of Keegan and Dylan. Alayne grew up in the Bracebridge area and moved to Bardsville with her family where she lived until she married Peter in 1955. They moved to Beatrice where they built their forever home and raised their family. Alayne and Peter ran their own family business until they retired. Alayne always kept busy; spending time at the family lake lot, gardening, doing jigsaw puzzles, and knitting. She was also part of a bowling league for many years. Alayne had a passion for driving! She spent many hours behind the wheel running errands, chauffeuring her kids and her friends often looking for an excuse to go for a drive! She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends. At Alayne’s request there will be no funeral or Celebration of Life service. She instead has requested a graveside service at the Beatrice Cemetery which will be held in the Spring of 2019. Condolences for the family may be left at www.reynoldsfuneral.com.
