Obituary for
Yee Boyd Har Hum
Our mother Yee Boyd Har Hum was born in the province of Canton, China. She was married to Lin Yock Hum in 1947, but was separated from him due to the Chinese exclusion act. She raised their son alone in China for 6 years. In 1955 she was able to join our father in Ottawa, where in the next decade 4 other children were born. They raised and supported the family by running the Gilmour Hand Laundry. In 1972 Lin Yock passed away. The traits that enabled our mother to support and successfully raise her children, hard work, strength, determination and drive; helped transform her into a force within the Ottawa Chinese Community. Strong and independent her journey was her own and she did well. Her peers, the City of Ottawa and the Government of Canada, recognized Boyd Har for her decades of community service. We her children recognize her for her leadership, unconditional love, guidance, and support she devoted to us. With sad hearts but deep gratitude we mourn her passing. Proud matriarch to her extended family across the country. Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O’Connor) on Wednesday, August 29 from 4 – 7 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, August 30 at 1 p.m. Interment to follow at Beechwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the Arthritis Society would be appreciated.
