FURRER, Willy
1944 – 2018
Willy Furrer, 74, passed away on Tuesday April 24, 2018 at his home in Calgary, Alberta. He was born on January 1, 1944 in Solothurn, Switzerland to Adolf and Marie Furrer.
Willy grew up in Grenchen, Switzerland where he learned to be an electrician. On his trip around the world with friends he met the love of his life Maria, they married in July of 1967 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. They were happily married for almost 51 years.
Willy worked as an electrician for the potash industry and later he worked for the City of Saskatoon for 31 years.
Willy loved the outdoors he was an avid fisherman, camper and hunter. Many wonderful memories were made on family camping/fishing trips to the Narrows in Prince Albert Provincial Park. He enjoyed spending time with family – loved his grandchildren.
Willy is predeceased by his parents, Adolf and Marie Furrer.
Willy is survived by his wife Maria of Calgary, Alberta; his son Rudy (Carol) Furrer of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta; his son Rene (Kathy) Furrer of Kelowna, BC; his daughter Monique (Brian) Tuffs of Calgary, Alberta; his grandchildren Rachel, Joshua, Cheyenne, Ryan, Sebastian, Owen, Anja, Nathan and Niclas; his brother Rene Furrer of Grenchen, Switzerland; his sister Vreni Alleman-Furrer of Grenchen, Switzerland; and numerous other relatives.
A Memorial Service will be held at Eden Brook Funeral Home, 24223 Township Road 242, Calgary AB, on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 2:00 pm, a reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (www.jdrf.ca) or the Heart and Stroke Foundation
