After a day surrounded by her adoring family, Willie died peacefully in Portage la Prairie as the love of her life Wayne held her hand. Willie was born in the family home in Hnausa, Manitoba to Wilfred and Gerda Finnson; she was the eighth of eleven children. She was very proud of her Icelandic heritage.
Willie was one of a kind. She was a woman of tremendous strength with the softest, most compassionate heart. She was hardworking and playful, honest and mischievous, – a series of seemingly opposing qualities held together by a beautiful soul. She was intuitive and wise, she was fiercely loyal and intensely loving, and she never gave up on people. Always welcoming and always generous, Willie would give you the shirt off her back if you asked. We will miss her genuine and unapologetic laugh and her fiery sense of humour.
Her memory will be cherished by her husband of 58 years Wayne, and her four children Shelly (Cam), Wendy (Kevin), Robert (Robin), and Jeff as well as her grandchildren Gregg (Lauren), Alyssa, Lauren, Brett, Glen (Shoal), Nicola (Tyler), Madeline (Tom), and Emily and by two great-grandchildren Wilder and Audrey, as well as many more beloved extended family members. Before she passed she expressed her anticipation of being reunited with her parents, sisters Alda and Jorunn, brother Svein, grandson Shaun, and the rest of her loved ones that departed this earth before her.
As her family we will endeavor to honour her legacy of love by exemplifying the values she instilled in us.

A service to celebrate Willie’s life will be held on Tuesday October 30, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Herman Prior Centre in Portage la Prairie. Everyone in attendance is an honorary pallbearer and dress will be casual.
