Obituary of William Spenceley
Spenceley, William “Bill” of Peterborough passed away at PRHC Friday September 21st in his 88th year. Loving wife Marilyn Spenceley of 61 years.
Loving children Randy (Michelle), Jamie (Karen), Melissa (David), Angela (Glen), Alison (Jesse). Beloved grandfather of Laura, Paul, Haley, Emma, Alexander, Brianna, Drew, Liam, Kieran. Bill will be missed by many other friends and relatives. Predeceased by his parents and siblings.
Bill Spenceley’s career had many highlights that included but were nowhere near limited to the following:
Bill graduated from the Ryerson Poly-technical Institute in 1953, and began a 40 year career in the Radio and Television industry. During his working years, he was very politically active, including 8 years serving as a Peterborough City Councillor, culminating in a run in the 1975 Peterborough Mayoral race. Bill was also nominated as a Candidate for the Provincial Conservative Party for Hastings County. Bill’s many interests also included Toastmasters International, where he spent many years promoting communication, leadership and public speaking which was his passion.
Soon after starting a family in the early 1960’s Bill found time to co-found the Kawartha Cup Snowmobile Race, which is still running over 50 years later.
In addition to his many career accomplishments, Bill will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, sharp intelligence, compassion, integrity and his love of animals both large and small. He was also an avid reader and sat on the Board for the Buckhorn Public Library.
Throughout his life, Bill touched the hearts of many, including the congregation of the Selwyn Outreach Centre, the Buckhorn Community he lived in and most importantly, his large circle of friends and family. Bill was known for his devotion to family and God above all else. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The Family of Bill Spenceley will welcome visitors to the Selywn Outreach Centre 2686 Lakefield Road Peterborough, Ontario on Friday, September 28th 6-9pm and Saturday, September 29th 1-2 pm with a Celebration of Life to follow at 2pm. The family has asked that if desired, in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Lakefield Animal Welfare Society or Friends Peterborough
