We are sad to announce the sudden passing of Bill Young on November 9, 2018 at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta. Bill recently celebrated his 90th birthday in June, surrounded by his many friends and family whom he loved and who in turn adored his gentle presence, quiet humour, and ardent devotion to family and friends. Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years Betty, his son Craig (June), son Steven, daughter Vicki, and grandchildren Magnus, Elliott, Sophia and Hank. He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Eileen Young, brothers Arthur (Anne-deceased) and Erle (Florence), and sister Margaret (Richard Wong – deceased). He will be missed by his surviving siblings James (Barbara), Sonny (Pat), Robert (Joyce), Clancy (Val), George (Terry), Lloyd (Alannah – deceased), and sister Dorothy, as well as many loving inlaws, nieces and nephews from his and Betty’s family. Bill was born in North Bay, Ontario, and spent most of his youth in Noranda, Quebec. He later moved to Toronto and studied electronics at Ryerson College, soon after opening his own service business. In 1974, he and Betty moved the family to Edmonton to open Wing’s Foods of Alberta Ltd., a packaging and food manufacturing company that supplied many of the largest wholesale food distributors and restaurant chains in Western Canada. Bill was very active in the Edmonton community, and was a charter member of the Chinese Lions Club, a member of Eastgate Lodge, Al Shamal Shriners, and Central Lions Seniors Association, where he enjoyed volunteering for their many activities and events. Bill loved to travel, dance, attend symphony and theatre. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed frequent fishing trips, often recounting the story of the 128 lbs. halibut that didn’t get away! His greatest love however, was his family, to whom he left his legacy of love, generosity, integrity and care. A memorial will be held at 3pm, Saturday, December 1, 2018 at St. Timothy’s Anglican Church. 8420 – 145th Street NW, Edmonton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the University Hospital Foundation, the Covenant Foundation, or the charity of your choice.
