William « Ed » Edward Carson
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of William “Ed” Edward Carson, while surrounded by his family on April 13th, 2018.
Ed was born on December 29th, 1945 in Portage la Prairie to William and Jessie Carson. After completing his high school education, he went on to become a Psychiatric Nurse and had a long career at the Manitoba Developmental Centre looking after his “honorary kids”. He enjoyed curling, golfing, fishing, volleyball and camping with his many friends and family, and continued to stay active in these activities in his retirement years. He dedicated many hours of volunteer time to the McKenzie United Church and was a member of the local Legion. Ed was well known for his friendly smile, big heart, and ability to strike up a conversation with anyone who paused long enough to make eye contact.
He was a true family man and is survived by his loving wife, Joan, of 51 years and his children, Andrea (Steve) of Alberta, and Corey (Kirsten) of Lorette. The lights of his life were his three grandchildren, Jamie, Myla and Jack, with whom he spent many hours playing cards and engineering cardboard gopher traps. He will be missed by his siblings Pam (Dennis) and Mike (Meryle) of Alberta, Sam (Cathy) and Gerald (Wendy) of Portage, and Patty (Bill) of Winnipeg, as well as his nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister Lynn, daughter Dianna, granddaughter Abigail, and beloved man’s best friend, Toby.
A celebration of Ed’s life will be announced and held at a later date. Donations in memory of Ed may be made to McKenzie United Church; 85 11th St NW Portage la Prairie, Manitoba R1N 2S2, or to CancerCare Manitoba; 675 McDermot Ave Winnipeg, Manitoba R3E 0V9.
