William (Bill) Penny
With sorrowful hearts we announce the peaceful passing of William (Bill) Penny on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at the Tudor House PCH, Selkirk at the age of 94 years.
He was predeceased by his wife Jean in 2006 and son Gord in 2014. He is survived by his children: Dennis (Peggy), Pat (Kas), Art, Gail (Dale) and Lorna (Dave), his youngest brother Walter, 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Bill was born in Winnipeg, the eldest of 5 children. Bill’s Dad worked for the City of Wpg., and when Bill was 7 years old his Dad moved the family out to the Matlock area to begin their new life as farmers joining Bill’s grandparents on the original homestead. When Bill was around the age of 14 his family moved to the Petersfield area to expand their own farming operations.
In addition to helping on the farm Bill did a variety of jobs; delivering ice, yard maintenance, operating his own gravel truck on the highways and for local gravel businesses, hauling snow for CN Rail, cutting fence posts and working in the bush camps in Ontario. This work enabled Bill to save and purchase his own farm.
In 1949 Bill married Jean Hurrie and they farmed as partners for 44 years, retiring in 1992. His ultimate favourite job on the farm was operating the combine and enjoying picnic lunches in the field during the harvest.
Honourary pallbearers are the amazing staff of the Tudor House Personal Care Home where Dad resided for the past 10 years. We are very thankful to the staff for their excellent care, friendship, love and attention given to Dad over the years.
A celebration of Bill’s life will take place on Thursday, July 26, at 11:00 a.m., in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, with Pastor Neill Stitt officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Dunara Cemetery Fund, Box 642, Petersfield, Manitoba R0C 2L0
Rest in peace Dad, your work on earth is done and heaven is a beautiful place!
