Obituary Overview
Lovingly Remembered
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Minnie Jobs on Friday, April 6, 2018 at the age of 83 years. She was a sweet and gentle soul loved greatly by her family.
She will be lovingly remembered by her brother Albert (Mathilde) Abel, sisters-in-law Penny, Hilda, Christel, Karyn and Martha and bother-in-law Edgar, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Edward, brothers Helmut, Ewald, George and Robert and her sister Ida.
Wilhelmine (Minnie) was born in Gnadenfeld, Ukraine (Russia) on Nov 3, 1934. She left her home with her family in 1944 and after a stenuous trip arrived in a refugee camp in Poland where they stayed for one month until being placed on farms near Leslau. The flight continued on to Bolvitz (near Poznan), then they finally arrived in Mecklenberg, Germany in 1945. In the spring of 1946 the family moved to Gimnich (Near Koln, now called Cologne) where they lived and worked on farms in the Rhineland. Minnie finished her schooling there to the age of fourteen. In 1951 they immigrated to Canada. They sailed on the MV Anna Salen and arrived in Halifax on May 14, 1951. Minnie was 16 years old. Minnie and her family ended up in Picture Butte, AB and worked on a sugar beet farm for 3 years to fulfill their contract.
She had met her future husband Edward Jobs on the ocean voyage to Canada and they stayed in contact with each other through letters. In March of 1954 they got engaged married on July 24, 1954. After their marriage, they lived in Broadview, SK for five years before moving to Calgary in 1959. Eddy worked at Tigersted Studio as a photographer for a couple of years, then became a roofing contractor. Minnie worked in the drycleaning business from the fall of 1959 until she lost her sight in 1986. She also lost her husband in 1978.
At the age of 73, she moved to Bow Valley Lodge, a home for independent seniors, because she was tired of cooking and cleaning and making grocery lists. Here, she was able to enjoy peace and quiet while still knitting and listening to her favourite audio books. She had regular visits from family members and enjoyed lunches out, especially when Wonton soup, dumplings, and prawns and other seafood were on the menu.
Minnie had an excellent memory which served as “her sight” and also helped the rest of the family when they needed to know dates of birthdays or events. She was the “go to” person in our family for this and more information. We will all miss her greatly and she will forever be in our Hearts and will be remembered as a loving, kind and gentle lady of Grace.
