Don passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Tuesday, September 11th, 2018 at his home in Lookout Ridge Retirement Residence while in his 98th year. Beloved husband of 65 years to Marie Louise nee Enticknap (predeceased). Loving father of Judy (Al), Jane (Mike), John (Pat) (Deanna), Jennifer (Paul). Proud Papa to many grandchildren and doting Papa Don to many great grandchildren. Don had a way to make all of them and anyone else he encountered all feel very special.
Don was a long-term employee of Bell Canada, retiring in 1978. He was a decorated WWII Lincoln & Welland Regiment veteran. During WWII, Don was awarded the Military Medal, the citation reading, “Through a long series of difficult operations Sergeant Whitfield has displayed gallantry and devotion to duty of the highest order. His bravery and complete disregard for personal safety have been a magnificent inspiration for all ranks in his battalion”.
