It is with reluctance and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wayne on Sunday, July 29th at the age of 69. Born May 30, 1949 in Vernon, Wayne grew up in the small logging town on Lumby, BC. He will be forever loved and remembered by Donna his wife of 17 years, his four lovely children Devon (Tamara), Tanya (Juel), Dexter (Suzette) and Tara (Darrell), 17 grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is predeceased by his parents Elseor and Verna Leger, two sisters Linda and Evon and his nephew Jeremy. He is survived by brothers Dewey (Cookie) and Elseor, his sisters Shirley (Don), Darryl, Ina, Leah, Mamie and Verna plus numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and extended family including sisters-in-law Linda, Carol, Sharon and their spouses and families. An avid sportsman and outdoorsman, Wayne will be remembered as a keen competitor excelling at pool, bowling, golf, baseball, arm wrestling, logging sports, hunting and fishing. He went to work early in life as a shake maker, then into logging, honing his skills in all areas, especially falling. In his latter years he spent his days happily laboring in his “Desert Rock” quarry high above Kal Lake with his beloved ravens in the great wide open he loved, often accompanied by his faithful wife and best friend Donna. Highly intelligent, a tough yet generous guy with a kind heart, he will be missed by family, friends and colleagues for his wit and humor. Cremation has taken place and he will be laid to rest in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery followed by a private family gathering. A Celebration in the park is planned at the Lumby Community Hall on Saturday, September 8, 2018 from 1:00-3:00pm and everyone is welcome. Those wishing to make a memorial donation are encouraged to visit the Vernon Search and Rescue website at www.vernonsar.ca.
