Obituary for Wayne Andrew Johnson
Peacefully on November 27, 2017, Wayne Andrew Johnson entered into final rest in Thunder Bay at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital, with his beloved wife and son by his side.
Wayne was born December 18, 1942 in Kenora to Rose Marie and Olaf Johnson of Sioux Narrows. Wayne was the 4th child of 6 born to Rose Marie and Olaf.
In Wayne’s younger years he lived and attended school in Sioux Narrows. From a young child and into adulthood he worked on the family fishery at French Portage on Lake of the Woods. Wayne excelled at working with small engines and worked for a time for his brother John Johnson at Nestor Falls Marine.
On April 6, 1968 Wayne married his sweetheart Irene Teeple. On May 21, 1971 Wayne and Irene welcomed their son Wayne Olaf Johnson JR. They Built their forever home from the ground up in 1973 along Hwy 71 in Nestor Falls. Wayne found work in the tourism industry by guiding and working at various camps. Wayne also cut wood and worked in the bush for a number of years. In his later years Wayne enjoyed doing various odd jobs cutting grass and building things for people. He also found entertainment with an occasional trip to the casino.
Affectionately known to family and friends as Big Wayne, he will be forever missed by his loving wife Irene Johnson, son Wayne Johnson JR (Allison Cox), foster son Paul Roussy, sisters Adeline Johnson (Bill), Julie Treadway (Ted), Beverly Johnson (Bill), Kathy Bennett (Bruce), sisters in law Alwine Teeple (Jim), Lisa Teeple (Gary), Alice Croswell (Raynard), Maxine Irvine (Joe), brothers in law Doug Teeple (Vesta), Bob Teeple (Ruth), Allan Teeple ( Shirley), as well as countless nieces and nephews and friends. Wayne was predeceased by his parents Rose Marie and Olaf Johnson, his brother John Johnson, sister in law Margaret Ann Johnson, brothers in law Jim Teeple and Gary Teeple.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Emo Hospital Auxiliary, or the Tamarack House in Thunder Bay,
As per Wayne’s wishes there will be no formal funeral. A gathering for family and close friends will be held at a later date.
