It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wai Fong Winnie Lau (nee Ng) peacefully at home in Vancouver, British Columbia on November 19, aged 94.
Winnie lived a full and adventurous life. She was born on October 9, 1924 in Hong Kong, the eleventh of sixteen children. She first took notice of her husband of 74 years, Koon Hing Ken Lau, when he shared his yellow umbrella with her on a rainy day. Together they raised six children and traveled the world.
Winnie was a lifelong learner. Even though her formal academic education was interrupted by World War II and children, she took classes to become an accountant and had a successful career. She was the glue in her globally dispersed family, traveling to all corners of the world to support those in need or to celebrate milestones. She managed to keep track of everyone via phone lines, emails and FaceTime, truly a tech savvy grandma.
She will be greatly missed by her husband Koon Hing Ken Lau; children Alfred Lau, Mona Tsang, Juliet Lu, Lily Ho, Elizabeth Lau and Victoria Lau; grandchildren Daegal Tsang, Janice Record, Arthur Tsang, Bernie Lau, Yvette Lu, Clara Lau, Jocelyn Lu, Leanna Ho, Alex Ho, Ian Buckman, Rory Buckman, Donovan Sturdy and Evan Sturdy; and great grandchildren Adam and Liam Record, Saskia and Zachery Tsang, Emilia and Olivia Lau and Elysee Tsang.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 10:00 am at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 3789 Royal Oak Ave, Burnaby. This will be preceded by a visitation on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 from 7:00-9:00 pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
