Violette “Violet” Julia Liopulolins Nodge ~
It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Violet (Vi) Nodge, age 98 (two weeks shy of 99), Windsor /formerly from Cape Breton, on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at The Sagewood Continuing Care Community, Lower Sackville, with all her family by her side.
Born on February 23, 1919, in New Waterford, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Vi is the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Besides her parents, Frederick and Emerance (Desomberg) David, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Steve; children, Louie (infancy) and Joseph.
Surviving are her daughter, Mary (Will); grandchildren, Stephen (Tiffany); and Crystal (David) Hartley; great-grandchildren Cameron, Lily, and Brett.
Until two weeks ago, mom was still mobile and this was only possible through her sheer determination to be independent. She would never leave the room without combing her hair and her unique sense of humor would bring a smile to anyone’s face. She loved her family more than words can express and enjoyed every second spent with each of us. She married her childhood sweetheart, Steve, in 1939, and passed away on his birthday just 10 minutes after her favorite TV show ended. It was meant to be for her to join him after 33 long years of waiting to see him again. She was definitely a people person and enjoyed company, playing cards, crocheting, cooking/baking, and painting. Living so long a life cannot be summarized in a few short words, but suffice it to say, she lived life to its fullest and we all have memories that will last us a life time.
A special thank you to Carolyn for playing crib with her and your visits over the past years; Rebecca she enjoyed the visits and time you spent with her more than you realize, you have made an excellent career choice; Rev. Kevin Cox for supporting us during this difficult time; to all the staff at The Sagewood for your care and support to her and us over the years. She thought the world of you all. A special thank you to Lisa, Holly, Sam, Wanda, Kim, and Karen as the last days wouldn’t have been the same without you. There were many staff shedding tears along with us which demonstrates true compassion above and beyond dedication to a career. You always made mom feel at home.
Cremation has taken place and she will take her final journey to Cape Breton this summer. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Sagewood, 345 Cobequid Road, Lower Sackville, from 2 – 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018. Please join us.
