It is with the heaviest of hearts and love we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Violet McDonald (nee Groves) at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home, on June 11, 2018, aged 84 years.
She has now entered into a gentle eternal peace. Waiting to greet her in heaven, her husband Dermot (Derm) McDonald (1989); brother Richard Groves (2000); sister Margaret Pippy (2015) and many other loved family and friends.
Lovingly remembered with broken hearts Violet will be mourned by her only daughter and best friend Regina Russell; son in-law Glenn Russell; her pride and joy, grandson, Tim Caudle; loving sister Carol Ann Costello (Bob), brother in-law, William Pippy, and many special, close nieces and nephews, especially her nephews: Frank Pippy (Margaret) and Gerard Power (Linda Bowring). She loved you all so much and was lovingly known as “Auntie Bee” or “Aunt Vi”.
Also leaving her many lifelong friends; the management and staff along with her resident friends at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home where she’s resided since April 2018. She loved being there and her final weeks were very happy. Leaving also her friends at Bayview Heights Manor, her home for 3 years, especially Carol Ann & Derek Toope and PCA Roxanne Sullivan. Thank you to everyone who helped mom these past few months, you’ve allowed us more quality time with her.
Violet was a life long employee of Crosbie Job Insurance where she retired happily at age 65. She loved her crossword books, was an avid sports fan, loved a game of cards, long chats on the phone, but her best times were spent laughing and enjoying life with her sisters and family. She was a very strong woman who never gave up, never gave in, and has instilled this strength in her family.
At Violets request cremation has taken place. Visitation will be at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, St. John’s, NL on Thursday, June 14 from 2-9 p.m. No funeral by request. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Topsail Road on Friday, June 15 at 2 p.m.
Momma loved her flowers, they will be gratefully accepted or donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation NL or Diabetic Association of NL.
“Those we love won’t go away, they gently walk with us every day, unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear.” Fly high with the angels momma, love you always!
Although you’re gone, I’m not alone,
And never shall I be,
For the precious memories of the bond we shared
Will never depart from me.
Our love surpassed the ups and downs
And helped us along the way,
And that same love will give me strength
To manage this loss each day.
On my mind and in my heart, you shall forever be,
For just as much as I am a part of you,
Mom, you will always be a part of me!
