Obituary of VICTOR BURDZ SR.
VICTOR BURDZ SR.
After a courageous battle with cancer it is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Victor Burdz Sr. on Tuesday July 24, 2018 at the age of 89 years old.
Left to cherish and treasure Victor’s memory are his loving wife of 65 years Nina; son Victor; daughter Nora Zahrobsky (Milan); grandson Brett Burdz (Mila) ; and granddaughter Rachel Burdz. He is also survived by his sister-in-laws Sonia Burdz and Josie Burdz his brothers Paul (Irene), Peter (Diane) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Victor was predeceased by his parents Walter and Aleksandra; brothers John, Walter and Boris; father- in- law and mother- in- law Michael and Antonina Michalczyk.
Victor was born on April 12, 1929 in Bula, Belarus where he spent his early childhood. During World War II the family was forced to relocate to Germany where he spent his teenage years. In 1949 our dad and his older brother John immigrated to Canada and eventually settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Then, in 1950 the two brothers sent for the rest of their family to immigrate to Canada.
In 1953 my father married his sweetheart and the love of his life Nina. Together they started a family and eventually moved to St. Vital where they lived for the next 51 years. Family was extremely important to our dad, he always said that family is the greatest possession we will ever have. He was a real family man devoted to providing and caring for the well being of his family; in which he loved to no end. Victor worked at Canada Packers for 34 years before retiring in 1988. Our dad used to say that being retired was the best job he ever had.
Upon retirement to remain active, Victor started his daily routine of mall walking at St. Vital Centre for almost the next 30 years where he became a regular fixture. Being an extrovert and a real people person, Dad quickly developed many new and lifelong friendships with other retirees. He truly enjoyed having coffee with the boys and sharing stories. He enjoyed sports throughout his life especially soccer and hockey. He especially enjoyed any game that involved Canada vs. Russia.
Unfortunately two years ago Victor developed cancer which slowed down a once active and vibrant man. He never complained and remained positive throughout those years and always said he had enjoyed a beautiful, long life. Our family would like to thank the wonderful staff at River Ridge II Retirement Home for the loving care and support they showed both our parents during these trying times. We would also like to thank Dr. F. Salem for his decades of care to our parents as well as Dr. Glazner and the entire 5th Floor U3 nursing staff at Seven Oaks Hospital who provided our dad with wonderful care, respect and compassion during his last two weeks.
Victor’s funeral service will be held on Monday July 30, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Avenue.
In lieu of flowers which are respectfully declined, donations can be made to: Cancer Care Manitoba Foundation, 1160- 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. R3E 0V9 or at donate@cancercare.mb.ca
Rest in peace our sweet prince, your long shift is finally over.
You lived your life for those you loved, and those you loved will always remember.
You will remain in our hearts forever; to walk with us throughout our lives.
Until we meet again.
