Obituary of Verna Davies
DAVIES – Verna Lillian (nee Plater) passed away peacefully in her sleep at Northland Pointe retirement home in Port Colborne, on Saturday, October 27th, 2018 at the age of 90 years. Verna is survived by her beloved husband Dennis, children Ian, Eric and Susan-Ann (Gunther Butzke), and grandchildren Coel, Ry and Élan Davies. Throughout her long life, Verna was an extremely outgoing, ever-friendly and compassionate spirit who always took time to brighten the day of anyone she would meet. She held careers in the 1960’s and 1970’s as a dedicated Teacher’s Aide at two Hamilton schools and six years as a pre-natal physician’s assistant in Saudi Arabia in the 1980’s. Since settling on Abbey Farm, Wainfleet in 1974 and later Port Colborne, Verna became a well known and much loved member of the community. She was an avid gardener, artist, poet, photographer and traveller and a regular contributor of human interest stories for the Port Colborne Leader and Welland Tribune. Verna’s beautiful free-spirit and bountiful laughter will be deeply missed by her family and friends. The Journey
By Verna Davies
The sound of a different drummer
called your mother away at last.
To reside in a place free of care and stress,
and where she’s now at rest.
Free of her burdened body now,
she was lifted on wings so soft.
They bore her to her place of rest
and held her safe aloft.
She’s only a breath away from you,
though her form cannot be seen.
She’s everything she ever was,
and what she might have been.
The many burdens gathered through
her long life now have gone.
They’re left behind, she’s free of them.
God took her safely home.
