Forever In Our Hearts
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Valerie (Val) Ann Jeanette Jurista (nee Girard) who resided on an acreage in Lumsden-Bethune area. Val was born in Redvers, and grew up on a family farm near Alida, SK.
Val was predeceased by parents Aime and Rita Girard; brother Rene Girard; and father-in-law Jim Jurista. Val is lovingly remembered by husband and best friend Dave; sons Dustin and Josh (Toresa); grandchildren Dominique, Aiden and Feline; sister Rozanne McClung (Peter); niece Sara McClung; mother-in-law Marcia Jurista; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins; and her beloved pets Kyli, Zala- and Billy.
Val developed a love for the outdoors while growing up on the farm at Alida. Val often spoke of the times she spent baling and working with her dad and learning to cook and garden with her mother.
Throughout her life, Val enjoyed working in her gardens and observing birds and other wildlife. Each year she planted and maintained her gardens meticulously. In the fall she spent countless hours storing, canning and freezing the bounty she harvested.
Val cherished her special girls Kyli, Zala and her little man Billy. She looked forward to walks with the girls and spoiled them all with treats. Over the last year, Val had enjoyed the hobby of beekeeping and was making plans to expand her beehives.
Val had a passion and amazing talent for cooking. She enjoyed trying new recipes and also reproducing favourites from her mother’s and other heritage cookbooks. She took great pride in preparing delicious savoury meals for family and friends.
Val retired in 2015 after working 35 years at SaskTel. In her retirement she remained close with her special group of wing-night friends.
There will be no formal funeral service. A private family memorial service will take place in the coming weeks.
