Valerie Joyce (VanTassel) Martin
1949-2018
Surrounded by her family, the death of Valerie Joyce Martin,
wife of Ron Martin occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital after
a long battle against cancer.
Born in Digby, NS on May 22, 1949, she was a daughter of
Hazel (Whitehead) and the late Donald VanTassel. Valerie was employed
with the General Hospital working at the Lab for several years and
then the volunteer services at the Saint John Regional Hospital until
retirement. She loved to organize events, including the Teddy Bear
Fair and Volunteer Recognition Night.
In her younger years she was an avid bowler. She was a great
hockey mom and enjoyed collecting crystal dishes. She was a member of
the Red Hatters Society, as well as a big Seadog and Blue Jays
fan.
Besides her loving husband, Valerie is survived by her son
Paul (Marie-Pier) of Moncton, NB, brother Greg VanTassel(Dale) of
Public Landing, NB, and sister Nancy Cormier (Rick) of Martinon, NB,
as well as several nieces and nephews.
A special thanks the oncology team at the Regional Hospital
as well as the nurses in 5CN for the excellent care that she
received.
Arrangements are under the
care of Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home,
1461 Manawagonish Rd, Saint John, NB (506) 634-7424. At
Valerie’s request there will be no visitation. A Memorial
Service will be held at Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home
Chapel, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John, NB (634-7425) on Friday
November 23 at 11AM. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to
the Saint John Regional Hospital-Volunteer
Services.
