Obituary of Valentine Mokry
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Valentine Gregory Mokry announce his passing peacefully in the Dr. F.H Wigmore Hospital with family at his side on Saturday February 10th, 2018, in his 93rd year. Valentine was born August 6th, 1925 to Valentine Mokry Sr. and Mary Cubak in Nepaly, Czechoslovakia. At a very young age he sailed from Europe to North America with his mother and older brother Joseph and settled in St. Boswells, Saskatchewan where his father was and they later acquired a farm. At the age of 16 he left the family farm and moved to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan where he worked for the Government elevator and turned down an opportunity with the Moose Jaw Canucks Hockey Team. A few years later, Valentine relocated to London, Ontario where he met the love of his life Audrey Langille. They remained in London where he worked at General Steel Wares as a press operator for 25 years. He was heavily involved with the Steel Workers Credit Union serving as a Director for many years where he adjudicated loan requests. Valentine and Audrey were married at St. Mary’s Church in London on July 17th, 1948. While in London they were blessed with five daughters and three sons that they loaded up in his trusted Chevrolet vehicles and travelled back to Saskatchewan where they spent many summers on the Mokry farm. In 1970 Valentine relocated his family permanently back to St. Boswells when he purchased and took over the family farm that he continued to farm until 2001. Valentine then retired to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan where he enjoyed his retirement years tinkering in the garage and helping his children and grandchildren. Throughout his years Valentine was a perfectionist and his motto was “If you are going to do something, do it right”. He leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife of 69 years, Audrey and their children Donna Osask (Bob) and their children Brad (Janet), Jeff, Chad (Jenny), Ryan (Shannon); Valarie Mokry (Bob Morrison) and her daughter Marsha; Nancy Forrester (Glenn) and their children Bart Bollinger (Carla) and Jessica; Ron Mokry (Sheila) and their children Sarah (Rob) and Mark; Brian Mokry (Jan) and their son Christopher; Paul Mokry and his children, Michael, Krista and Ashley; Theresa Mokry (Rocky); Marie Fitzgerald (Jay) and their children Catlin and Allyson, and his 15 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his siblings Art (Lorraine), Viola Smuk, Anne Morrissette (Harvey) and sisters-in-law Louise, Ida and Nita. He was predeceased by his parents Valentine Sr. and Mary, his brothers, Joseph, Johnny, Frankie, and his sister Frances Waller. A Celebration of his Life will be held at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church located at 1064 3rd Avenue North West, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 10:30 am, with a reception to follow in the parish hall.
