It is with great sadness that the family of Douglas K. Turner of Lower Sackville formerly of Westville announces his passing on Thursday, January 11, 2018.
Doug was the son of the late Joe and Mag (Bigney) Turner of Westville.
Born in Westville on July 8, 1938, he attended schools in Westville. He went to work at the N.S. Hospital as a certified Nursing Assistant before joining Canada Post for 33 years, both in Dartmouth and Lower Sackville. Until his illness, Doug loved bowling, curling, planting flowers and a vegetable garden.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years Helen (MacKenzie); daughters, Paula Morash (Richard), Middle Sackville; Karen Reid, Oakfield; his pride and joy, his 3 grandsons, Nicholas Morash and Larry and Mason Reid; brothers Allie Turner (Vivian), New Glasgow; Rick Filmore (Matilda), New Glasgow; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was predeceased in May by his son-in-law Ken Reid and also grandson Jordan Morash in 1994. He was also predeceased by brothers Jerry and Joseph Allan; sisters Josephine, Mary Jane, Pearl MacLean (Burns), Annie Quinn (Chester), Alice MacInnis (Charlie); Mabel MacIsaac (Archie) and Harriet Avery (Cecil).
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from 1-1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17, followed by his memorial service at 2 p.m. at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with the Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Spring interment will take place in the Auburn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local S.P.C.A. or a charity of your choice.
