It is with great sadness and regret that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved son, brother and uncle, Thor Nathaniel Eyolfson. He is survived by his parents, Maureen and Derek Eyolfson, siblings, Evan, Rochelle and Aaron Eyolfson. He was predeceased by his Grannie Constance Eyolfson, Uncle Gregory Martin, and Great Aunts, Theresa Thomas, Thelma Rupert and Helen Hourie. Thor was born on a cold December day in Winnipeg, Manitoba at St. Boniface Hospital. He was taken home to Traverse Bay where he resided until six years of age and then moved to East Fort Garry. Thor was an exceptional baby who didn’t require as much attention as most babies naturally do. As a child he enjoyed playing and (getting into trouble at times) with his siblings and cousins. He excelled in school and on several occasions received top student awards. As Thor reached adulthood he decided Winnipeg was too small for him and he was not willing to settle for an everyday existence as so many of us endure. At the age of 18, Thor ventured off to live in beautiful B.C. He came home to regroup for short periods, only to leave again for months at a time, working throughout Western Canada. Thor was very close with his family, calling to check in with his parents and siblings to make sure everyone was doing okay. Thor had an incredible work ethic, was exceptionally strong, and forever loyal. Thor would work for weeks at a time without time off. He was independent and self-sufficient beyond his years. Although Thor was the baby of the family, it seemed at times as if he was the eldest as he was always trying to help his family. Thor’s personality was parallel to the mythic God whom he was named after. He was a born protector who lived without fear yet was the most sensitive and generous man to those he was loyal to. He was strong and hot tempered, thoughtful and empathetic. « To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people just exist. » – Oscar Wilde. Thor, you were one of the few people in this world to do just that. You may be gone, but will never be forgotten and will forever be in our hearts. We take comfort knowing you are at peace in heaven. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. Jeanneau officiating, assisted by Fr. James Gray. Friends and family are invited to join us at St. Marguerite Roman Catholic Church in Traverse Bay, MB. The family would like to thank the Winnipeg Police Service for their exceptional support during the notification. We would also like to thank our incredible family and friends for their advice and support at this time.
