CUSHING, Thomas Patterson “Tom” – Age 83, of Kingston/Greenwood, Kings Co., passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2018, in Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, Middleton, after more than a decade of living with cancer, the disease that finally took his life. Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Elizabeth Anne Cushing; children, Gregory (Rebecca) Cushing; Elaine (Brett) Byrne, both of Ontario; Matthew Cushing, Alberta; Tracey (Shane) Schedler; Matthew (Sonia) Fudge, both of Ontario; grandchildren, Olivia Byrne, Jasper Byrne, Smith Schedler, Shenai Schedler, Chloe Fudge, Slade Schedler and Kayla Fudge, all of Ontario. Tom was a retired high school teacher, and Physical Education specialist after many years of service in Cobourg, Ontario. He was a philosopher, poet and an artist. Tom loved gardening and many outdoor activities. He was a marathon runner and had coached some of Ontario’s top cross country athletes. Tom loved all of his children and grandchildren and will be sorely missed. His faith in God was a mainstay of his life and death. In keeping with Tom’s wishes his remains have been donated to the Department of Medical Neuroscience at Dalhousie University. There will be no visitation or service at this time. Donations in his memory may be made to Carey Me Fund – Supporting Palliative Care in the Home, your local animal shelter or to a charity of one’s choice.
