Terry passed away peacefully at the Bethany Care Home in Didsbury on November 22 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s at the age of 93. Terry was predeceased by his wife, Marj of 54 years, his sister Thora, brother John and great grandchild Blake. Terry is survived by his five children Ron (Karen), Lindsay (Marion), Sue, Merv (Mona), and Marty (Dennine), eleven grandchildren, Julie (Reg), Jodi, Daylene (John), Tanya (Brad), Leanne, Sandra (Dean), David (Diane), Daniel (April), Chelsie (Warren), Austin and Matt; thirteen great-grandchildren, Sloan, Rhett, Jake, Kolt, Drew, Connor, Mike, Aleah, Darien, Landen, Ethan, Noah, and Lincoln. He was also survived by two brothers and two sisters, Jean, Barney, Merv, and Joan as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family & friends. Dad was born in Calgary and raised in the small community of Shepard. This is where he met his wife Marj and they married on November 19th, 1949. He had a mixed farm, which included cattle, hogs, grain & hay in the Shepard area and in 1966 moved to the Giles Ranch west of Airdrie, where he continued his love of Ranching & Farming.
Dad enjoyed a great cut of Alberta Beef along with a dark rum & coke or a variety of other beverage choices. We would like you to join us for just that! There will be no finger sandwiches or tea at this memorial. The family welcomes you to come at 5:00 pm on Friday, November 30th to Apple Creek Golf Course located between Airdrie and Crossfield (North of Airdrie on Dickson Stevenson Trail, turn left (west) on Township Rd 275 go approx. 1.3 km. it is on the right). At 6 pm we will take a trip down memory lane and then we eat.
To help us ensure we have enough “grub” as Dad would say, we would appreciate if you could RSVP by calling or texting Cherie Haynes at 403-519-6688 by November 29th at 1:00 pm so were ready for you. If you are texting or leaving a message, please be sure to leave your name as well as the number attending.
Terry Giles was the epitome of tough old-style ranchers that opened this country up. If you have a tough story or any story about our dad please come and share it with us at the memorial, we welcome your companionship. There is no dress code, as Dad would have none of that, but if you have an old or new cowboy hat and threw it on that night it would make us smile. We would love to see as many in the room as possible.
P.S
Thanks for the flowers as they are appreciated but if you wanted a different way to send your respects donations can be made in Terry’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Calgary. www.alzheimercalgary.ca. To express condolences, please visit: www.mountainviewmemorial.ca.
