Mary passed away peacefully, at the age of 89, after a long journey with Alzheimer’s Disease. She is predeceased by her husband Murray Taylor, son Paul Taylor, and grandsons John Paul Greer and Kevin Taylor.
She leaves behind her son Arthur Taylor; daughters Catherine Greer, Dawn Taylor, and Cory Taylor; 6 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren.
Mary was raised in Powell River. She spent her early married life with her young family in Campbell River before moving to Tahsis in 1966. She was well known for her cooking – starting with the Delta Hotel, then spending many years working in the cook house for Russell and Lilly Logging at Blow Hole Bay, and for the Tahsis Motel. She moved to Calgary in 1984, where she lived with her son and cooked for the forestry fire crews and catering firms. She even cooked for the 1988 Women’s Olympic ski team. Mary spent her final years living with and being cared for by her daughter Dawn and son-in-law Normand in Courtenay.
Mary loved reading, doing jigsaw puzzles, swimming, going for daily coffee outings, playing bingo, touring Costco and traveling the world. She enjoyed sharing stories about her trips. Her adventure with Dawn and Normand to the Great Wall of China was one of her favorites.
The family would like to say with a special thank you to Dr. J. McLaughlin and nurse Cathy, also a thank you to VIHA and all the home support nurses and workers.
Arrangements have been placed in the care of Emma Rimell.
