Tamara Dawn Matheson
Matheson, Tamara Dawn – age 37 of Cole Harbour passed away in the loving arms of her wife on Friday, February 16th, 2018 in the VG Site, QE II. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of Tim and Frances (Crook) of Cole Harbour. Along with her parents Tamara is survived by her wife of 9 years, Natalie (MacLeod); fur babies, Lexi and Lola; parents in law, Les and Marg Macleod, Ardoise; honorary siblings, Ashely (Ron) Locke, Gjoa Haven, NT and Chelsea (Garrett) Arsenault, Stratford PEI and a very loved niece, Madison, who loved her aunt “Teet” very much; many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by grandparents, Don and Ann (Yates) Crook and Frank and Helen (Wojcik) Matheson. Tamara graduated in 1998 from Cole Harbour High School and in 2004 from Dalhousie University with degrees in Bachelor of Science Recreation and Bachelor of Management. She was most proud of obtaining a certificate in Adult Education from St. FX where she was able to find her true calling shortly before she became ill. Tamara worked for HRM for over 10 years. She was a proud foster mom with Natalie of several children. Tamara loved to travel and was able to visit many places around the world including in Canada and abroad . She was artistic and applied it to many hobbies over the years. Tamara enjoyed many activities including playing high school Rugby, downhill skiing, kayaking, swimming, quad running, working out and playing video games. Some of her best times were spent at the family cottage on Sherbrooke Lake, game nights with friends and family and was an escape room enthusiast. Though breast cancer tired her, made her sick and caused her pain she did not lose the battle against it. Tamara laughed with friends, took adventures with family, debated politics and danced in the kitchen with her wife and fought for every second of life with a determination and strength that we could only wish to have. Tamara taught family and friends to find blessings even in the worst of times and leaves us with many great memories. The family would like to thank her oncologist Dr. Alwin Jeyakumar and nurse Darlene for both their care and friendship over the years, as well as the nursing staff of 5A VG site who allowed her wife, Natalie to provide her care and keep her dignity until her passing. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9pm Friday, February 23rd with a Celebration of Life 2pm Saturday, February 24th with a reception to follow all in Atlantic Funeral Homes, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope for Wildlife.
