Sylvia Roorda (Idsinga)
Roorda, Sylvia:
Sylvia Roorda (nee Idsinga) of Waterloo, Ontario, died peacefully on Friday, September 14, 2018. Born on October 15, 1939, in Wjelsryp, the Netherlands, to the late Leo (2006) and Aukje (nee Kuperus) Idsinga (1967), Sylvia’s family immigrated to Clinton, Ontario, in 1952. Sylvia married John Roorda in 1962 and was promised that she would « see the world » with him. Eventually settling in Waterloo, Ontario, Sylvia and John also lived several times in the United Kingdom and enjoyed many travels through Europe with their family.
Sylvia will be remembered with love by her children, Angela Roorda, Paul Roorda and Doris Jakobsh, Peter Roorda and Brigitte Bill, and Matthew Roorda and Linda Klapwyk. Her grandchildren, Jonas, Jesse, Kaira, Esther, Ingrid, Hannah, Samuel (2003), Calvin, Joshua, and Nathan, will have good memories of their « Beppe ». Sylvia will be warmly remembered by her siblings, Helen Roorda, John Idsinga, Corrie White, Sandra Chrysler, and Hattie Idsinga. Sylvia is predeceased by her husband John Roorda (1999), her brother Bill Idsinga (1956), sister Betty Bakker (2015), brother George Idsinga (2015), brother Peter Idsinga (2018), and son-in-law Art Winter (1991).
Sylvia is known in her community for being a weaver of exceptional talent and will also be remembered as a caring and dedicated caregiver and friend.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, September 17, 2018 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener. A public memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at 11 a.m at the Waterloo Christian Reformed Church, 209 Bearinger Rd, Waterloo, followed by a reception.
